White Wind went ahead and called a cab to get to The Ghost. It was the kind of thing she could probably be reimbursed for from Guild funds anyway. Even so, it took a while, and she found herself on the edge of her seat. It was times like these when she really saw the point to Tanglewood's motorcycle, zipping between traffic in emergencies.
"So, you're a superhero, huh?" The taxi driver asked.
"Mhm."
"Guess youse guys don't take cabs so much, huh?"
"Not usually." She bit the inside of her lip to keep herself from chewing him out. He had to be the slowest New York taxi driver in the world, but she represented SAG NYC and super actionheroes in general, and she wasn't about to tarnish their reputation. Anyway, she probably wasn't losing out on nearly as much time as it felt like. She kept responding to him and didn't get upset. "Not all that talkative" was preferable to "cold bitch."
He was about to ask her another question when she cut in with one of her own instead. "So, you a fan of superheroes, or neutral?"
"Definitely a fan. You do some great work out there."
"Well, I'm on my way to help out another hero. Think you could speed up the driving to help me?"
The taxi driver got a gleam in his eyes and turned back to the road, gripping the wheel. "Sure thing," he replied, and gave her some of the speedster driving she'd really been hoping for.
Still, when she finally reached the bar, White Wind got right down to it. She certainly wasn't wasting any time. Following The Ghost's directions, she found him right away. He was pale and limp against the wall, blood covering his hands and head, and he hadn't stopped bleeding. His eyes were closed.
"Ghost," she whispered. They definitely didn't want attention. "Ghost!" She shook him.
